“Wow! I never expected this,” said a surprised Vivian Stornes. “I see people here who affect so many children’s lives every day, so this is a great honor.”

Ms. Stornes says that she tries to live her life by following the Jewish proverb that states “If you help one person,  you change the world.” Other co-workers say Stornes has “one of the most challenging but rewarding support assignments in education. She understands the needs of our students with autism and respects and celebrates each one of them as individuals.”

Toyota RAV4 Electric Revealed At 2012 Electric Vehicle Symposium

Toyota’s RAV4 EV, which has debuted at the 2012 Electric Vehicle Symposium, will be the only fully electric SUV on the market when it launches during the 2012 production cycle. Developed thanks to a creative partnership between Toyota and electric performance car-maker Tesla, the RAV4 EV will be an advanced model capable of conquering 100 miles on a single charge.

While the number of electrified RAV4s that will be initially released is still up in the air, Toyota has noted that small batch of cars will be produced to “gauge consumer preferences, usage patterns and daily requirements.” Many of the first dealerships selected to receive the RAV4 EV are located in California where high gas prices, environmentally conscientious mindsets, and special discounts for EVs all converge. Toyota has claimed that over the next 3 years they plan to build around 2600 electric SUVs .

Ultimately this first mover electric SUV should be a win-win proposition for the customer wanting an EV that will also be able to transport cargo and passengers. Hopefully this innovative product will get more OEMs producing a range of electric vehicles that will bring this fuel saving technology mainstream.

2014 Toyota RAV4 Pics Leaked

This week, Toyota’s new 2014 RAV4 crossover was captured in a few spy shots showing that the Japanese manufacturer plans a refresh for the upcoming year. From the pictures it is evident that most of the proportions will stay constant with the current model but further work will be done on the front fascia. Pedestrian safety regulations have likely played into the choice for Toyota to enhance the fenders and hood by making them taller.

The rear taillights have been extended to the liftgate for better visibility while the lower reflectors and the location of the tailpipe will remain similar to older models. Like last year’s model, the liftgate will continue to open vertically unlike past horizontal opening rears.

Expect updates to both four-cylinder and V6 offerings in the area of fuel economy and performance. Motor Authority reports that the “RAV4 EV will likely stick around as well, though again, in very limited production — not more than 2,500 units per year initially.

2013 Toyota Avalon Shocks New York Auto Show

The Toyota Avalon is hardly the nameplate that pundits were expecting to impress at April’s New York International Auto Show which is what made the Avalon’s debut something special. Toyota has taken a relatively pedestrian mid-size sedan and completely turned it on its head by providing youthful styling that makes the Avalon look like fun to drive.

As the product of North American design and engineering, this new Avalon looks to capture the hearts and minds of young drivers all across the US. In fact this midsize sedan will be built in Georgetown Kentucky which means that prices for this stylish, bold, and somewhat sporty Avalon will remain affordable.

According to AutoBlog.com the Avalon will also feature a variety of additions that will make it sportier to drive such as an enhanced throttle response and weighted steering to provide better feel. Paddle shifters bring the sporty race styling full circle and Toyota has already confirmed that there will be a six cylinder offering available.

Toyota Will Enter Rally Racing With Toyota 86 / Scion FR-S

When Toyota and Subaru got together to start the project that eventually become the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S, racing had to be at the back of their minds. With an unbelievably balanced chassis, handling on par with cars 5 times the cost, and a super low center of gravity, the Toyota 86 practically begs to be raced and pushed to the limits. News out of the Toyota camp is that an 86 model has already been developed and that two of these racing-specific models will be brought to Germany’s Nurburgring for a grueling 24-hour performance test.

It would seem that Toyota has even bigger plans than to take the 86 around the ‘Ring thanks to the fact that Toyota plans to enter into the Super Taikyu Endurance Series and All-Japan Rally Championship. This news comes as no surprise considering Toyota’s great success during the 1990′s in the World Rally Championship with 4 Drivers’ Championships and 3 Constructors Championships. Of course recently, Toyota has been absent from the sport of Rally due to its concentration on Formula One. It seems now, more than ever, would be a perfect time for Toyota to resurrect the classic image of a company interested in motor sports and performance.

2013 Toyota Avalon Looks Great In New York Reveal

Toyota decided to take one of their more obscure vehicles and put it in the spotlight during the New York International Auto Show. That car is the 2013 Toyota Avalon and it has shed its rather pedestrian looks for something more spectacular with an especially pronounced grill ala the 2013 Ford Fusion. According to Autoblog, Toyota has given the Avalon a Sport mode which features enhance throttle response and weighted steering “to offer a sportier character”.

Also to be included on the new Avalon are rumored to be paddle shifters so youthful drivers can feel fast while pushing a six-cylinder engine Toyota has already claimed will power the mid-size sedan. Currently, the 2012 Avalon stocks a 268-horsepower which is more than enough muscle to make this ride respectable and comes courtesy of a derivative of the Lexus GS’s engine.

In an effort to connect with a younger American buying public, Toyota had the car developed, designed, styled, and engineered in the United States. Turns out the 2013 Avalon will even be built here in at Toyota’s Georgetown, KY plant.

Germain Toyota of Sarasota is extremely excited to stock this newly refreshed Avalon later this year when it comes out.

Forbes Names 5 Toyota/Scion Models As Toughest Cars of 2012

Defining the word tough is, well, tough. The dictionary defines tough as “strong and durable; not easily broken or cut”. Recently, Forbes.com compiled a subjective list of today’s toughest cars on the road and it turns out that 5 out of the 9 total vehicles had dependable Toyota and Scion nameplates.

These “toughness ratings” were determined after extensive research including dependability and safety studies done by J.D. Power and Associates, Consumer Reports, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Although some may first think of trucks when they think about tough cars, Forbes deliberately excluded pickups in favor of everyday daily drivers like vans, sedans, and crossovers. To be in the running for toughest cars of 2012, models had to first gain a “Top Three” rating in J.D. Power and Associates 2012 dependability study, then be considered by Consumer Reports to be a “Most Reliable” vehicle, and finally be honored as an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

Here is a list of Toyota and Scion Models which made the Toughest Cars of 2012:

Germain Scion Selected As First To Receive A Scion FR-S

Once in a blue a car moon with incredible hype comes along and captures the attention of the automotive industry. Currently, the Scion FR-S is doing just that. Recently, Germain Toyota/Scion of Sarasota, FL was informed that they have been selected as one of the first dealerships in the entire country to receive the FR-S sports car.

This could be you:

Ok, well not really. But still the Scion FR-S is something to get really excited about. Here is a car that is meant to be driven hard, gets good fuel economy, is extremely balanced, and will be affordable to own.

Driving the 2013 Scion FR-S has been compared to more exotic sports cars like the Porsche Cayman which also have a low-center of gravity and rear-wheel drive. Instead of boosting horsepower, Scion and Toyota engineers looked at the power-to-weight ratio extensively. With only 200 horsepower, the FR-S is plenty quick thanks to its extremely light design.

Germain Toyota and Scion of Sarasota have the unbelievably exclusive opportunity to offer one of the first of the Scion FR-S models. While this individual car has already been claimed, Germain will be getting more of this vehicle once distribution goes mainstream.
